The Father Daughter Dance |
Not every bride
chooses to dance with her father at her wedding
reception. Some brides dance with a special male
relative, such as a brother or an uncle, instead.
Others choose to combine the Father Daughter Dance
with a dance for the groom and his mother. If
you are shy about dancing with dear old dad, maybe
it would help to ask all the fathers and daughters
out on the dance floor after a short time. It
is tradition for the groom to cut in at the end
of the song, at which time dad resumes dancing
with his wife. If you are going to follow this
tradition (most couples no longer do) then choose
a song with more of a general love theme rather
than one specifically about fathers and daughters.

A country song, in which a daughter reminisces
about her loving father. She speaks of how her
father loved her, and how he showed this by being
gentle and compassionate, as well as by disciplining
her when she misbehaved.

A big band song in which Daddy sings of his
love for his daughter.

I have always thought of this as a song from

7. Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
At his daughter's wedding, a father reminisces
about the close relationship they had when she
was a child. A tearjerker. Available in both a
pop and country format.
8. Only Little Girl, The by Steve and Annie
Chapman
A deeply nostalgic song. After his daughter's
wedding, a father recalls how when his little
girl was growing up, he was "the only man
in her heart." Now, he reassures his daughter
that even though she is all grown up, she will
always be "the little girl in his heart."

An upbeat 80's hit.
11. Have I Told You Lately? by Rod Stewart
A bonus track, great for when the groom plans

I couldn't resist adding just one more song...
This is a terrific one if you or your dad is into
