Reflections: Nick is amazing us daily with new words and accomplishments. I know better than to think I'll ever keep up.
May 2007:
Favourites: Peep on Discovery Kids
Funny Nick Moment-- today K said he had to eat something or he was going to "go nuts." and Nick said, a few minutes later, "but you're not a squirrel, daddy. you don't need a snack." and I just stared at him bewildered, and then he put it together for me: "daddy isn't a squirrel. you know, squirrels eat nuts?" Yes, mama is dumb, kidlet is literal, hahahaha.
May 18: Nick very insistantly (finally!) named our turtle once and for all. Tahna. Tahna the tutle. Kelly said "So, did we get an Indian freshwater red eared slider?" But Tahna it is.

March 2007
March 1: my parents stopped by on their way to the grocery store, and Nick wanted to go with them (he'd seen a "peep" stuffed animal display at the grocery store and we said "maybe grandma will get you one in your easter basket" so he thought he could get a peep if he went with them- of course he was totally right) anyway, he went and came back with a peep, a fruit roll up, and an egg full of jelly beans. I said "oh, you got him jelly beans? he knows he's not allowed to have them until easter." (we have a deal regarding jelly beans and cadbury mini eggs) and nick said "i'm sorry mama. but it's too late."
March 6: Nick sang "Happy Birthday" to me last night, and insisted I open his gift. He told me he
was going to get me a car and a train, and I said I would like a game we can
play together, and he got me Hungry Hungry Hippos! I may be a founding member of
the society against cheap plastic crap, but as far as cheap plastic crap goes,
HHH is about the best thing there is.
March 12: Funny Nick Sayings of the Day:
1. Daddy, you're making me crazy!
2. I love being a princess!
3. when you get too old and you are little and you are my baby (said to mama)
oh, and Nick is not big, he's little, and he's not a boy, he's a bugalet. Nick also chewed out a customer service person who called me "ma'am." stern little voice: That's not ma'am, that's just mama.
March 30: I love the way he mispronounces helipopter, tri-n-gle, bacardigans, scandals. Lightning McQueen is "Mister the Queen" and Captain Hook is Dr. Hook.
This morning, when I asked Nick if he wanted to get up with me or sleep more, he
actually made a disgusted noise at me and rolled back over to sleep. I was like,
what? did you just pfft me? he totally pfft me.
February 2007
Nick Quote of the Day:
"I'm not a person! I'm a bug-a-let with green pants!"
Nick had his first dentist appointment this month!
Nick keeps putting on his little yellow construction hat and telling us he's a princess. ha.
January 2007
He has these real, serious conversations, even on the phone. He often demands "talk to me" or corrects you "he was talking to me!"
Sample conversation, on the phone with grandpa
N: Hi Grampa. Are you going to come home and see me?
G: Hi Nick! Did you have fun with grandma today?
N: No, I'm leaving. I'm going to get breads.
G: What did you do today?
N: We played hide and seek and I counted one two three and (unintelligible) grandma found me!
G: That sounds fun!
N: No. I'm going to get breads with mama now. Goodbye.
He's so freaking cute.
He mispronounces "yibing room" for living room and it's HIS yibbing room. He still says "aminals" and he has now added "homo sapien" to his biology knowledge but he says "homo sabien."
another cute mispronounciation is "helipopters"
another funny Nickism-- he has this fleece overcoat, and we always call it his fleece, as opposed to his waterproof coat that we call his coat. The other day, my mom was trying to get him to put on his fleece and she said "come on Nick, we need to put on your coat" and he stopped and gave her this "are you stupid?" look and said "gramma, that's NOT my coat. That's my FLEECE." all overpronoucning the words and stuff. cracks me up.
oh, and he's been a book junkie siince christmas. I was a little disappointed that he never really liked to read since I love to read and I love to read children's books aloud. (I even read them to my high school kids-- we had "circle time" yesterday in psychology). But he's all about books now. Can't get enough of them. Good, good.
December 2007:
every time Nick sees a gift (like a toy or a shirt) he got for Christmas, he says "I opened that present!"
that, and he now says "oh, come on!" when you don't do what he asks. The first time he said it was in the kitchen while we were cooking and he wanted chocolate milk and Kelly and I both just about lost it. We laughed for like 15 minutes. now, the charm is wearing off.

He's harder to put off when he wants something (Mama, I'm HUNGRY. I want FOOD. Feed me, mama! I'm HUNGRY). He talks nonstop. He knows he's a mammal and that he's human. He also "knows" that he's a bug-a-let. He collects people's favourite colours. He can be bashful, especially when he first wakes up. During the week, he mostly only nurses after 9.
